Advantages of OMOM® capsule endoscopy over traditional methods of examining the small intestine:
1. Comfort and painlessness.
Capsule endoscopy does not cause pain or discomfort and does not require anesthesia.
2. Security.
There are no harmful effects on the human body during the study. The video capsule is disposable and sterile, which prevents infection of the patient.
3. Convenience.
During capsule endoscopy, the patient has the opportunity to move freely, watch TV, use mobile communications, etc.
4. Information content.
- Capsule endoscopy is the best modern method for examining the small intestine. Video capsule endoscopy is highly informative in identifying the causes of hidden gastrointestinal bleeding compared with radiography (70-100% versus 15-37%).
- The effectiveness of studies using a video capsule exceeds the effectiveness of MRI diagnostics in detecting intestinal polyps from 5 to 15 mm, while polyps less than 5 mm are detected only by a video capsule.
- By magnifying the image of the villi of the small intestine by 8 times, capsule endoscopy provides a high-quality assessment of the intestinal mucosa and is the “gold standard” for diagnosing celiac disease - a dangerous disease of the small intestine, which without specific treatment leads to disability and death of patients.
Features of the OMOM video capsule system:
The ability to remotely turn off the endocapsule for longer studies;
Exclusion of identical images to reduce the time for analyzing the results obtained;
Optional portable pocket PC for viewing live recording;
Wireless module for connecting the device for recording images to a PC;
Using a comfortable vest with sensors makes working with the entire system easier. You don't need to stick sensors on the patient.
Indications for the use of OMOM® capsule endoscopy:
- Anemia or gastrointestinal bleeding of unknown origin;
- Diagnosed or suspected Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, enteritis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS);
- Suspicion of benign (polyps) and malignant tumors of the small intestine, including GIST and neuroendocrine;
- Abdominal pain of unknown origin;
- Prolonged diarrhea and weight loss.
Contraindications to the use of OMOM® capsule endoscopy:
- Acute intestinal obstruction;
- Perforation of a hollow abdominal organ, peritonitis;
- Implanted pacemaker;
- Swallowing problems;
- Patients in the acute phase of nonspecific inflammatory disease of the large intestine, radiation colitis, active dysentery;
- Hypersensitivity to polymeric materials;
- Pregnancy.
